On A Closer Look
As a trained historian who researched and published in cultural anthropology I am somewhat of a context nerd. That transgresses into my photography where on the whole I strive to cloak the subject of a photograph into a fair amount of visual decodable context, not necessarily essential to comprehend the very nature of the subject itself, but to give a sense of surroundings, whereabouts and other peripheral realities to thicken the visual description in the Geertzian sense.
»On A Closer Look« is an ongoing series of photographs where I deliberately refrain from that principle and employ distinctly narrow framing in order to isolate and highlight patterns of visual harmony and order that would escape many observers within the wider appearance of its often dissonant and chaotic surroundings.
