Growing up in close proximity one tends not to expect anything particularly interesting from a neighbouring country. Thats true at least for me and Germany. So I had to grow well into my thirties to start travelling the country in ernest. Since then I have fallen in love with the Baltic coast in particular and the north and east in general but maybe thats only because I have not seen enough from the south and west. The regional division as it is made beneath is of course often bollocks. Schleswig Holsteiners would object Lower Saxony belonging to the north while Berliners could well be mad for being sent to the east and not to the north. But one has to make some choices …
